National Reading Day Activities

Read-In

Students from years 7-10 participated in a Read-in on National Reading Day. The students had previously registered their interest by picking up a Read-in form from the library. Their task was to see if they could meet a four hour reading challenge. They were encouraged to gain sponsors and think about where they would like the money they raised to go.

We had 48 participants and all met the challenge with ease. Staff kept a steady supply of  milo and lollies up to the keen readers , and there were great prizes awarded at the end of the day. This will certainly become an annual event.

Year 7 Wide Reading Program

This term year 7 students have been reading for enjoyment during one of their English periods.  The focus has been on sharing, with other students, thoughts about  books and reading. We have been using Moodle, our interactive online course management  system, to facilitate this communication. Students have  posted comments about their favourite reading material, as well as completed online reading logs and surveys. The great advantage of this technology is that students can converse with each other across the entire year group and  they can access the program both at school and from home.

As part of National Literacy Week, year 7 students were asked to find out what their parent or caregivers favourite book was when they were in year 7 and post this on the Moodle forum. Sudents have until the end of term three to post their responses.
